Cooking with Jae Sinnett

It has been a busy few weeks for me and feel so guilty about not updating the blog. School year ending for the day job has been quite a mess and I am still catching up. I feel like I have missed such a big part of the fresh produce growing season. You know how you just have all these plans and dreams and when I try to follow through I just don’t have the time and feel so torn on what are the priorities in my life. One of those priorities was my daughter’s graduation and family visit from NJ. Not realizing my mistake on dates of the arrival of family I had committed to being Sous chef for Jae Sinnett here at WHRO the same evening.
What a mess. But now that things have calmed down all in all it was a wonderful weekend and I feel not so stressed about it. One of the great things about working for WHRO is the talent we have here and the good thing’s these talented people do for the community and our viewers/listeners. Jae Sinnett has been in and out of my life (only on the radio airwaves) for almost 15 years. If you know Jazz and love Jazz you know Jae and his Trio, or Sinnett in Session with Jae Monday thru Thursday 9p-1a on WHRV 89.5 or Sundays from 1-5pm or maybe Fridays with the R&B Chronicles. http://www.whro.org/home/publicradio/whrv/localprogramming/jazz/
My husband is a huge fan of Jazz, Blues, the funny, educational and inspiring stories and public radio. Without Reynold’s influence to my listening of NPR almost 20 years ago in Brunswick, ME, I would not be working here today. I thank Reynold for this every day I walk into my office whether he knows it or not, it is a little whispered prayer of thanks. WHRO/WHRV has changed my life. I hope to the good. I have been a member of WHRO/WHRV for eight years before I even started working here all because of Reynold and his love of NPR. But back to Jae and Sous Chef for the night. Jae during our radio fund drives will put up a challenge to become a member or re-new a membership for "x" amount of dollars and he will cook for the evening for you and four other guests. We had the perfect evening July 12 for such an event at Dr. and Mrs. Deutch’s house. Lovely home, lovely yard on the water, terrific wine with sun setting in the background. Can I say how jealous I was of the kitchen we worked in? Yes I was super jealous!
On the menu was salmon in an Asian marinade, curried rice and sauteed spinach. So easy, but very special. Mrs. Deutch made a pretty fruit soup to start the meal off. I can't wait to get back into the cooking for others besides just my family. Is September here yet?
